In Loving Memory of Eva

Eva was with me for 18 years—pretty much my entire adult life. I got her from the Delaware County Humane Society when she was just 14 weeks old. Back then, I was living alone and wanted a companion for my other kitty. I had no idea how much this tiny kitten would come to mean to me.

She was there before I met my husband. She was there through every move, every new chapter, every life change—and she handled it all with quiet grace, just taking it in stride like she always did.

We lost her first “brother” when she was about six, and even though that was a hard time, she stayed steady and calm. When we brought home her second “brother,” who had a lot more energy and wanted to play when she clearly did not, she took it in stride. She never made a fuss—just went about her business and made room for him in her world.

We always called her our “scaredy-cat.” She was shy with visitors—so much so that most people didn’t even know we had two cats! But once you were part of her circle, she loved you deeply. And we loved her just as much, with all our hearts.

She was the sweetest cat I’ve ever known. She didn’t demand attention, she just quietly gave her love in the most comforting ways. And one of the most special things about her was the way she bonded with our son. Every single night, without fail, she curled up with him and stayed all night long. That kind of loyalty and gentleness is something I’ll never forget.

It’s hard to imagine our home without her. There’s a quietness now. A space that was hers. But I know she’s still with us in all the little ways—in the memories, the routines, the love she left behind.

Eva, thank you for being my companion, my comfort, and my constant through so much. You were truly one of a kind. We miss you every day. We love you always.

Sleep well, sweet gato.
